the grave of Leonard Bernstein is located at the tallest natural point of Brooklyn, NY. a small bench etched with his surname is covered in stones left by reverent visitors. small shrubs surround the bench where many small and singing insects find shelter.

a restless dawn led me to this site with a loved one in mind. with only the occasional groundskeeper in sight the morning felt so quiet, so removed from the city and yet the sounds are so full.
the crickets teach me rhythms, polyrhythms, and persistence.
the gravestone teaches me impermanence, patience and listening.

this is a recording from that bench at 8:04am on the morning of September 18, 2019
